Skiing – Cross Country

Quick Intro

The sport of cross-country skiing is a winter time recreational activity – and on a more competitive level it encompasses a variety of formats for cross-country skiing races over courses of varying distances. Cross-country ski competitors employ one of two techniques according to the event: classic style or skating style. In classic style skiing, the skis remain parallel (in-track) as the skier strides straight ahead – while in skating style skiing , the skier provides propulsion on the snow surface by pushing alternating skis away from one another at an angle side-to-side (in a manner similar to e.g. ice skating). Basic equipment involved in skiing covers the skis themselves as well as ski poles used to provide additional forward movement via arms pushing.
